Welcome!

Hi there, everyone!

Well, I'm finally committing myself to a long term project. I often waffle on Twitter about grand plans I have for my online presence, but rarely do they bare out. But no wittering this time, no tears, no anxieties. I'm going forward with all my beliefs.

This is a blog dedicated to my scribbles; just prose for the time being, but it may venture into other avenues (reviews of things I'm reading/watching (mainly Doctor Who, of course, interviews (perhaps?) and personal bits and bobs). My main goal is to create a long running story featuring a completely original Doctor and companion, who'll hurtle into space and time together. The exciting things is, besides a first draft of the opening chapter, I have no idea where they'll end up, or indeed, if they'll find their way out of my imagination and onto the page. But I'm confident that we'll have a lot of fun.

This isn't an exercise in self-promotion or gratification (although, if I can keep this up for the foreseeable, I'll be very pleased with myself!). It's an attempt to give writing a proper go, and improve my ability to create and structure stories, write dialogue and hopefully entertain others.

But, naturally, I'll only be able to get better with the help and advice of others. If (or, more likely, when) you feel the need to throw some constructive criticism my way, you can send a response in the comment box below each individual blog post, so feel free to leave notes there!

The first chapter will be dropping this Sunday. I'm tweaking it as we speak, as well as working on the site, so please follow me on Twitter (twitter.com/GarrattJohn) to keep up to date on new posts and the like (there's a mailing list you can join, which will send you notifications when a new post/chapter drops. Hit the subscribe button at the top to say informed). I'll be working on biogs and bibles for our time travellers in the next fortnight or so too, so you can get a good idea of who we'll be journeying with, too!

This is not an attempt to better or complain about the series as we know it on TV now. I'm not trying to show anyone how I'd do it or how it should be done (given I'm not a professional in this space and I certainly don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to creative writing at that level!). There'll be no negativity here, just a space where I can splurge my thoughts and writings.

So I hope you'll join me on this adventure! I'm very excited.
